The unfolding story...
Captain Dingus is one of the few post-Nth-wave punk-revival bands to embrace a raw, passionate sound instead of overproduced, pretty-boy noise, while maintaining a dedication to perfecting their musical performance and live show.

The Dingus, though several years in the making, is only 3-months old.  Guitarist Brent Weinert and bassist Nathan Berggoetz began practicing mad-hot grooves together their sophomore year of high school.  Once long-term friend Bob Miller began taking drum lessons that summer, The Gophers formed.  The Gophers, due to lack-of-singer, did not have a very prominent career.

The summer before their senior year, however, the boys finally found a vocal match to their unique musical-stylings-Nick Sabo.  With Nick's addition, The Gophers officially dissolved and Captain Dingus was born-“captain” meaning leader and “dingus” meaning a useless or forgotten object, all layered in a double entendre for good-natured fun.

Their initial 3-song EP, a sleep so deep we thought he was dead, was released in late 2002 as a DIY project and received an overwhelming reception from the local fan base.

“We really didn't expect anything like this,” Brent said.  “The response was really amazing, really-it was just really nice.  We didn't think anybody liked us.”

Their deeply personal, angst-ridden lyrics draw from life experiences of growing up and the confusion and disillusionment that accompanies it.  Already emotionally charged by Nick's style of hard-driven vocals, Captain Dingus adds Nathan's razor-sharp backup vocals which combine to convey a tone of chaos while maintaining a sense of hope.

“We're just four kids who were lucky enough to find each other so we could start a band and have a creative outlet-something to plug-in to when all the other outlets are overcrowded.  Captain Dingus is our music and our lyrics and our way of letting out angst and frustration and making people listen to us.  Captain Dingus is part of who we all are,” Bob said.
